The Young Naturalist provides engaging, science-based Nature workshops for children aged between 7 and 17 years, in each of the NSW School Holiday periods.

The Young Naturalist is an approved provider for the NSW Creative Kids Voucher.

The Young Naturalist: Nature Discovery &
Citizen Science with iNaturalist
Saturday, 15th July / 10:30 to 3:30
Young Naturalists will investigate Australian biodiversity in our unique Nature Laboratory and venture into the park to discover insects, fungi, wildlife and native plants in the forests and mangroves, as they learn Nature Photography and participate in Citizen Science with our Young Naturalist Nature Discovery Project.

Young Naturalists will investigate the amazing connections between butterflies, beetles, and native plants in our unique Nature Laboratory & discover the incredible biodiversity that exists in Sydney Olympic Park.

The Young Naturalist: Nature Detectives©
Thursday, 13th July / 10:30 to 3:30
Young Naturalists will become Nature Detectives© as they discover the secret nocturnal adventures of Pamela the Long-nosed Bandicoot© (Perameles nasuta) in our Sydney backyards and bushland. Solve the mystery of Pamela’s nocturnal foraging by identifying flower pollen from her fur, fungal spores from the tip of her nose and insect remains from outside her burrow.

Young Naturalists will discover the extraordinary diversity of our Australian flora & fauna in our unique Nature Laboratory and help create new habitat in Sydney Olympic Park for insects and wildlife.
July 2022 School Holidays:
1. Nature in Focus:
Young Naturalists will bring Nature into focus with our magnifying lenses, microscopes, and Canon cameras in our unique Nature Laboratory.
2. Incredible Insects:
Young Naturalists will journey into the incredible world of insects, learn to identify key taxonomic Groups, and discover the world through the eyes of insects, in our unique Insect Laboratory.
3. Nature Detectives:
Become a Nature Detective as we discover the secret nocturnal adventures of Pamela the Long-nosed Bandicoot (Perameles nasuta) in our Sydney backyards and bushland. Use our microscopes to solve the clues and decipher the code to identify the plants, fungi and insects Pamela has encountered during the night.
In each workshop, our Young Naturalists will become Citizen Scientists and Nature Photographers as they focus our Canon cameras on Nature in the forest grids.
